காதில் சத்தம் வந்துகொண்டே இருந்தால் (மணி ஒலிப்பது போது போல்) வெங்காயச் சாற்றில் ஒரு துணியை நனைத்து அத்துணியை பிழிந்து சில துளிகளைக் காதில் விட வேண்டும். இது ரஷ்யாவில் பிரபலமான மருத்துவமுறை, மயங்கி விழுந்துவிட்டவர்களின் மூக்கில் இரு துளி வெங்காயச்சாற்றை விட்டால் உடனே மயக்கம் தெளிந்து எழுவார்கள்.

காதில் வலி இருந்தால் சுட வைக்கப்பட்ட வெங்காயச் சாற்றில் ஒரு துணியை நனைத்து அத்துணியைப் பிழிந்து இரண்டு மூன்று துளிகளைக் காதில் விடவேண்டும்.

பற்களில் பாக்டீரியாக்கள் தங்க விடாமல் இருக்கத் தினமும் ஒரு வெங்காயத்தை பச்சயைாகக் கடித்துச் சாப்பிட வேண்டும். இப்படிமென்று தின்றால் பாக்டீரியாக்கள் அழிந்துவிடும் பற்களும், ஈறுகளும் பாதிக்கப்படுவதும் முன் கூட்டியே தடுக்கப்படும்.

பல் வலி உள்ள இடத்தில் ஒரு துண்டு வெங்காயத்தை வைத்துக்கொண்டால் பல்வலி குறையும். பல் ஈறுகளிலும் குறையும். பல் சம்பந்தமான அனைத்து வெங்காய வைத்தியமும் ரஷ்யாவில் பிரபலமான வைத்திய முறைகளாகும்.

வெங்காயத்தின் தாயகம்!
வெங்காயத்தின் தாவர விஞ்ஞானப் பெயர், அலியம் சிபா (Allium cepa) என்பதாகும்.

ஈரான் - பாகிஸ்தான் பகுதியில் தோன்றிய காய்கறி இது. மத்திய ஆசியாவில் தோன்றிய வெங்காயம் பண்டைய காலத்திலேயே மத்திய கிழக்கு நாடுகளிலும், இந்தியாவிலும் பயிர் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

பண்டைய எகிப்து நாட்டில் மிகவும் பிரபலமான உணவு, வெங்காயம். ஒரு வகை வெங்காயத்தைக் கடவுளாகவே இவர்கள் வணங்கி வந்தார்கள். உறவினர்களைப் பார்க்கப் போகும் போதும் முக்கிய நிகழ்ச்சிகளிலும் வெங்காயத்தைப் பரிசுப் பொருளாகக் கொடுத்து மகிழந்தனர். மூவாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முந்திய மம்மிகளிலும் வெங்காயம் வைத்தே புதைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதை கண்டுபிடித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

யூதர்களுக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தமானது வெங்காயம். அதனால் சூயஸ் வளைகுடாவில் ஆனியன் என்று பெயரிலே ஒரு நகரை கி.மு.430இல் யூதர்கள் நிறுவினார்கள். இந்த நகரம் 340 ஆண்டுகள் வரை இருந்தது.

இன்று உலகம் முழுவதும் வெங்காயம் பயிர் செய்யப்படுகிறது.
